This Site is listed in the ACSI Discount Camping Book available here. This book is definitely worth getting for its discount card that you can use for out of season camping.

We visited this campsite in June 2019

Camping Brantome Peyrelevade is a beautiful and peaceful campsite on the banks of the Dronne river set in parkland.

The most important thing for us when choosing a campsite is that it must be near a town or village as we have a motorhome. Camping Brantome Peyrelevade is in an excellent location as it is within an easy 10-15 minute walk into the lovely town of Brantome.

There are lots of walking and cycling opportunities. Well signed walks surround the campsite of all different lengths.

It’s a well laid out, clean site with 10 amp electrics with nice wide roadways.

The reception staff were very friendly, and welcoming speaking excellent English. The owners are relatively new (a couple of years) and are making improvements to the site all the time. Next year they have plans to make the swimming pool bigger. They are hoping to raise the site from three to four-star within the next couple of years. Personally, I would class it as a 4 star now as it is a beautifully rustic site which is lush and green.  We just hope it doesn’t lose its charm.

The pitches are level, spacious and grassy. I can imagine it would get quite muddy in wet weather although I have read that the owner pulls people out who get stuck.

There is a good choice of pitches, sunny, dappled or shady also riverside pitches where you can sit and watch the canoes and kayaks go past.  Boats can be launched from the campsite too. If you don’t have your own boat, canoe/kayak hire is available in town. There is even a little sandy beach area by the river for the children.

Modern shower blocks which are kept spotlessly clean. The toilets have seats and plenty of loo roll. In one of the toilet blocks, they have a tree in the middle and a row of cushions that you can take away and sit on down by the river. We thought that was a particularly nice touch.   Washing machines are available along with plenty of hot water.

The swimming pool is heated with plenty of sun loungers around the pool. The pool area is a real sun trap as well as being spotlessly clean.

The small shop on site sells some basics, and there are Aldi and Carrefour nearby. You can order baguettes and pastries from the reception the day before which can be collected the next morning. The homemade pizza is delicious and good value for money.

Although there is free Wi-Fi throughout the site, it is a little slow. Faster internet is available for a fee.

Fantastic children’s play area.  Some enjoyable activities for all the family include petanque, laser quest and sometimes the circus visits. On-site there is a big football pitch and Brantomme tennis court which can be hired.

The small beautiful town of Brantome is encircled by the river Dronne with bars, restaurants, shops, bank and just about everything you need. There is a French market and river jousting to entertain you. Brantome is at the top end of the Dordogne with plenty of Chateaus, caves and pretty villages to see. We are definitely going back to explore more of the area. We really enjoyed this site and would recommend it.
