Füssen, Germany

Füssen is at the end of the Romantic Strasse in southern Bavaria (or the beginning if you are travelling in the less usual direction). It’s a great base to visit the nearby castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

Pompeii, Italy

Visiting Ancient Pompei is a fascinating experience and so much better than we had expected. The whole place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside too.  I knew nothing of Pompei and Vesuvius before we visited the ruins but I do regret that I didn’t at least do a bit of research on the internet or look through some guidebooks first.
